Holocaust Survivors Hotline

ERAN operates a dedicated and accessible helpline providing mental health assistance and emotional support to Holocaust survivors and their families.

ERAN volunteers, professionally trained by leading experts in the field, offer psychological first aid and a listening ear to Holocaust survivors, senior citizens, and their family members, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You can reach us by dialing toll-free from any phone in Israel: 1-800-24-1201.

The service is nationwide, anonymous, requires no identification, and is available in Hebrew, English, and Russian.

Three Channels of Support

  • Emotional Support: A listening ear, encouragement, reassurance, and guidance in thinking about possible ways to cope with difficulties.

  • Information about Community Services for Holocaust survivors and senior citizens, and when necessary, referrals for callers who wish to continue treatment with relevant agencies responsible for caring for Holocaust survivors.

  • Proactive Weekly Calls for Holocaust survivors who desire them, as part of a structured program to alleviate loneliness. Within this program, ERAN volunteers initiate regular weekly phone contact at a pre-arranged time with the survivor, discussing their day and any topic they choose.

Always Listening to the Silence of Holocaust Survivors

As part of the professional training for ERAN’s staff and volunteers, we held a unique nationwide professional training session titled, “Listening to the Silence of Holocaust Survivors on the Topic of Sexual Assault during the Holocaust.

This study day addressed a crucial topic that is often not at the forefront of public discussion. It holds significant value in understanding the complex experience beyond the immediate event and was intended for those involved in the treatment and support of Holocaust survivors: social workers from the Ministry of Welfare, volunteers from assistance centers for victims of sexual assault, and ERAN volunteers.

Beyond the calls received on the helpline for Holocaust survivors, proactive calls were also made to survivors who desired ongoing emotional support.

ERAN maintains close professional collaboration with the Ministry of Welfare and Social Services, social organizations, and community social workers to find solutions for the needs that arise from these calls.

Loneliness in Older Adulthood

Loneliness is a feeling many older adults experience, and it can intensify due to natural changes characteristic of this life stage: retirement, loss of spouses and friends, a decline in mobility or health function, and even family changes like children moving on with their own lives and growing families.

Beyond the emotional challenge, loneliness can also impact physical health, increasing the risk of chronic illnesses and depression.

However, there are ways to cope with loneliness at this age. Forming new social connections by joining community groups, clubs, and shared activities, alongside using technology like video calls or social media, can help.
