Support for the Elderly

ERAN operates a dedicated and accessible helpline providing mental health assistance and emotional support to senior citizens.

ERAN volunteers, professionally trained by leading experts in the field, offer psychological first aid and a listening ear to senior citizens and their families, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You can reach us by dialing toll-free from any phone in Israel: 1-800-24-1201.

The service is nationwide, anonymous, requires no identification, and is available in Hebrew, English, and Russian.

Channels of Support and Assistance

ERAN’s helplines for seniors provide:

  • Emotional support: A listening ear, encouragement, reassurance, and guidance in thinking about possible ways to cope with difficulties.

  • Information about community services for senior citizens: And, when needed, referrals for callers who wish to receive continued treatment or assistance from the appropriate organizations.

Challenges, Changes, and Growth

The third age brings significant changes in various aspects of life. Sometimes, it takes time to adjust to a new and different reality. Retirement from work also has a social impact – it can lead to a reduction in social connections, and also affect one’s sense of meaning and daily occupation.

Additionally, there can be challenges with changes in family structure – adult children are busy with their lives, and sometimes a feeling of distance or loneliness arises. The loss of family members or friends can also increase feelings of loneliness and create emotional distress.

ERAN’s volunteers are here with you on this journey of change, which can also lead to new discoveries and growth.

Loneliness in the Third Age

Loneliness is a feeling that many seniors experience, and it can intensify due to natural changes characteristic of this life stage: retirement, loss of spouses and friends, a decline in mobility or health function, and even family changes like children moving on with their own lives and raising their families.

Beyond the emotional challenge, loneliness can also affect physical health and increase the risk of chronic diseases and depression. However, there are ways to cope with loneliness at this age: forming new social connections by joining community groups, clubs, and shared activities, alongside using technology like video calls or social media, can help.
