Emotional First Aid

We can all find ourselves in moments of distress, whether from sudden anxiety, heartbreak, loneliness, or an unexpected crisis. In such moments, the listening ear you can find by reaching out to ERAN can make the difference. Calling ERAN allows you to unburden yourself, share, and feel that someone is listening and accepting. There is no judgment and no need to explain.

The call with an ERAN volunteer includes full, compassionate listening and acceptance. ERAN volunteers are there for anyone in need: a teenager in distress, a soldier during or after a challenging service period, a couple in crisis, someone dealing with financial hardship, a need to keep a secret, or anyone experiencing loss, loneliness or emotional pain.

The service at ERAN is completely anonymous and open to everyone. There’s no need to identify yourself or be afraid. There is a listening ear and an open heart here. At ERAN, there is a place for everyone, and every call is received with respect and sensitivity.

Suicide Prevention

ERAN volunteers provide assistance and support to those in distress and suicidal crisis. Every year, we receive over 300,000 calls and messages. Three percent of these are suicide-related, including thoughts, intentions, and threats. And of those, one out of every ten is an active suicide attempt.

As part of its life-saving work, the ERAN organization maintains continuous professional cooperation with security forces, which helps save hundreds of lives each year.

Additionally, ERAN operates an online monitoring unit to identify suicidal content on the web. It works in collaboration with Google, YouTube, Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok Israel, and X to prevent suicide in Israel.

Supporting victims of cyberbullying

Every year, ERAN receives tens of thousands of calls related to online abuse affecting young children, teenagers, and adults. The number of such calls rises each year.

In addition to providing emotional support through our help lines, ERAN collaborates with the Israel Internet Association and Hotline 105 to offer emotional support and mental health first aid to victims of online bullying and violence, and to assist in the removal of offensive sexual and violent content.

Furthermore, ERAN operates a monitoring patrol to identify suicidal content online, working to save lives within social media platforms and the broader web.

According to data from Hotline 105, the Israel National Headquarters for the Protection of Children Online, more than 64,000 cases were opened and handled between its establishment until March 2025. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, the hotline dealt with 4,423 cases, a 59% increase compared to the last quarter of 2024.

The leading categories of inquiries are:

  • Sexual offenses (22%)

  • Bullying and shaming (18%)

  • Threats to life (9%)

The main platforms where abuse occurs are:

  • Instagram (22%)

  • WhatsApp (19%)

  • TikTok (12%)

  • Stips Forum (5%)

The majority of victims are between the ages of 12 and 15, with 57% being girls and young women. Most of the identified perpetrators are between 13 and 14 years old.

Emergency Preparedness and Response

In Israel, we are grappling with trauma on both a national and personal level. The ongoing war, pain, and loss affect a wide range of people. A survey conducted by the State Comptroller’s Office in April 2024 estimated that approximately 3 million adults report symptoms of post-traumatic stress, with about 580,000 of them potentially suffering from at least one severe symptom. The prolonged war and its consequences are increasing the number of people experiencing post-traumatic stress.

In addition to providing emotional and mental support through our help lines, ERAN is one of the founding members of the “Israeli Trauma Coalition.” We are dedicated to preparing for and responding to national emergencies in Israel and disaster events worldwide.

Our joint projects with the Coalition include:

  • Participation in international aid missions. ERAN teams have provided emotional support and assistance during acts of violence and terror against Jewish communities in Ukraine, Argentina, the United States, France, Mexico, and other countries.

  • Strengthening and expanding our services to support the resilience of residents in conflict zones in both the north and south of Israel during wartime and IDF operations, including support for evacuated residents.

  • Developing crisis intervention and emergency preparedness training programs for professionals, volunteers, and key personnel. Since the “Swords of Iron” war, ERAN teams have provided training to social workers, security forces, firefighters, National Insurance Institute staff, and others.
